Monte Albán is a full-bodied and smooth fully washed Coffee from small family farms in southern Mexico. Flavors of dried apple, almond, apricot, cherry, and milk chocolate characterize this wonderfully easy-to-drink cup.

All farmers are certified organic and use traditional farming methods, processing the coffee without chemicals. They also produce their own organic compost. For them, agriculture is a legacy, deeply rooted in generations of knowledge and shaped by their unique culture and identity.

Monte Albán is a thousand-year-old Zapotec ruin that can be seen from the coffee plantations, hidden in the mountains surrounding the area. Monte Albán is located near the city of Oaxaca, one of Mexico's premier culinary destinations, where culture has been shaped and refined throughout history.

What makes Monte Albán so special?
Grown by the Zapotec people near the ancient pyramids of Monte Albán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this coffee embodies the heritage of a resilient Indigenous community that has preserved its Lachiguiri language and traditions despite centuries of Spanish rule.

Shade grown in living soil
Cultivated in the surrounding mountain ranges at elevations of up to 1,650 meters (5,400 feet), the coffee is grown using agroforestry practices beneath a native forest canopy. This method enriches the soil with organic matter, protects biodiversity, and shields the coffee plants from direct sunlight—naturally enhancing the flavor of the beans.

Hand picked on small farms
This is truly small-batch coffee. Each cherry is hand-picked from a single lot (Sierra Zapoteca Lachiguiri Pajarito), ensuring that only the ripest fruit is selected. Much like all fruits, a fully ripe coffee cherry delivers far superior flavor than an unripe one, resulting in a richer, more complex cup.

You support real farmers
Every purchase helps support the Zapotec community and their commitment to high-elevation, shade-grown, and environmentally responsible farming. You’re not just buying coffee—you’re taking part in a supply chain that preserves tradition and rewards genuine craftsmanship.
