On our last visit to Colombia, we were invited to be judges in a local coffee competition - a competition where this particular coffee won. That very afternoon we bought it at an open auction held in the square of the small town of Ciudad Bolívar.

The coffee is a 72 hour fermented fully washed lot from the Piamonte farm; an ancient farm at 1850 meters altitude, historically recognized for its beautiful topography. Here, high quality coffee is grown from a variety of varieties. Piamonte is particularly noted for its long fermentations - made possible by the cool climate of the high altitude.

The result is an elegant coffee with a sweet tropical fruitiness, balanced by a fresh and refreshing acidity.

ABOUT PIAMONTE

At Piamonte they grow both exotic - Geisha, Chiroso, Sidra and more - and traditional coffee varieties - Caturra, Bourbon, Castillo. This allows them to produce a wide range of coffee styles, including traditional naturlas, honeys, pulp natural & wet-processed (as on this lot). Often extra slow fermentation and carbonic maceration techniques are used. The harmonious balance of nutrients in the soil makes Piamonte completely unique and offers tremendous potential for exploring new flavors and distinctive taste notes.
