Matcha tea has its roots in China, where its use began over a thousand years ago. It was introduced to Japan in the 12th century by Buddhist monks, who adopted it and perfected its cultivation and preparation. The word ‘matcha’ means ‘powdered tea’ and is made from shade-grown green tea leaves, hand-picked and finely ground into a light green powder.

The manufacturing process for matcha tea is meticulous and time-consuming. Tea plants are covered to protect them from direct sunlight, which increases the production of chlorophyll and amino acids in the leaves. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried and ground in stone mills to create fine matcha powder.

Whether you want to enjoy your Matcha on its own or mixed with milk, KISORI gives you a wonderfully fresh and vibrant taste. Ceremonial matcha tea is meant to be enjoyed pure, prepared simply with hot water, and is traditionally used in tea ceremonies. However, everyday matcha is more versatile and can be used in lattes, smoothies, desserts and other recipes. It's also one of the healthiest drinks you can have, packed with antioxidants.

The color often reveals the quality of the tea; high quality matcha tea will have a bright green color and a fresh aroma. A dull or yellowish matcha indicates lower quality.

INGREDIENTS:

100% green tea powder (camellia sinensis)

HOW TO EASILY BREW YOUR MATCHA:

  • HOT: Whisk the matcha (about 2 grams) first with a splash of cold water to a smooth paste.
  • COLD: For the easiest way to get all of Matchan's antioxidants, especially catechins, which help fight free radicals in the body, mix Matchan with cold water, place in the fridge and enjoy as a cold drink. The powder will sink to the bottom, but just shake before each pour, and the powder will mix with the water.
