This coffee is produced by farmers from the Mukuyuni Farmers Cooperative Society, located in the Machakos region of Kenya. The cooperative consists of 932 members who grow coffee at altitudes of between 1700 and 2000 meters above sea level. The cooperative is progressive, promoting organic farming methods and providing educational services to its members. Interestingly, at least half of the cooperative's ten board members must be women, although last year women made up less than 38% of members. Their commitment to quality and sustainability is particularly evident in the shared facilities and on the experimental farms where they teach farmers about crop diversification and organic farming.
