You put the filter in the filter holder and put it on the vessel you want to brew in, pour in coffee and then pour over the water. It is recommended that you work your way out and into a circle when pouring on the water. The process takes about 3-4 minutes so when you are done you simply remove the filter and clean your dripper under the tap.
